Orthodontist, Educator, and Co-Inventor of InSmile Braces
Dr. Robert Lee DDS, MS is an acclaimed orthodontist, inventor, scientist, and teacher. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he earned his BS in bioengineering and his DDS. He then attended the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where he earned his certificate in Orthodontics and MS in oral and craniofacial sciences. Dr. Lee continues to teach as a part-time professor at UCSF, where he serves as the course director and lectures on clear aligner therapy (i.e. Invisalign).
As an orthodontics resident and professor, Dr. Lee has performed novel research, including multiple projects with Dr. Tong, on computer-aided design/computer aided-manufacturing (CAD/CAM) applications in orthodontics, next-generation 3D-imaging techniques, oral cancer, and mini-implant assisted rapid palatal expansion. His extensive research has culminated in over 20 peer-reviewed publications and 6 cover-page articles in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJODO), Journal of Clinical Orthodontics (JCO), and Journal of American Dental Association (JADA) which are widely considered the most respected orthodontic and dental journals in the world.
Dr. Lee is a co-inventor of InSmile Braces, where he worked with Dr. Tong on the 3D modeling, design, and fabrication workflow of the InSmile lingual bracket and Smartwires. He helped Dr. Tong found the original company, and he continues to serve InSmile Braces as its Chief Medical Officer.
