Types of Braces
Common types are metal braces, ceramic braces, lingual braces, and
Invisalign aligners.
Metal Braces
Metal braces are also known as traditional braces. They use braces,
wires, and elastic ties to gradually push teeth into their correct
positions. After every 4 to 6 weeks, your orthodontist adjusts the wires
to shift your teeth.
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic material resembles natural teeth which makes these braces
less visible on the teeth. Ceramic braces also use metal wires but
because they are clear, they can’t be seen as obviously as metal braces
would.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are the least common type of braces. They are more
common in older people who want to straighten their teeth without
attracting attention. These braces however are complicated because they
are placed behind teeth. Only a few orthodontists can place lingual
braces.
Invisalign
Invisalign clear aligners are worn over teeth to shift their
positions gradually over a period of time. The aligners are removable,
unlike regular braces which are usually fixed.
